Team Staff

Phil Sykes played his minor hockey career in Dawson Creek, BC. and played three seasons with the Junior B Kodiaks. Sykes attended tryouts at the University of North Dakota. His blinding speed and strong work ethic didn’t go unnoticed, and he went on to play four seasons for the UND Fighting Sioux.

In his four-year university career, Sykes won two NCAA championships, was named to the 1982 WCHA all-star team and was tournament MVP at both the 1980 and 1982 NCAA Tournaments.

In 1987, he was inducted to the UND Sports Hall of Fame and was also named by the NCAA in the top 50 college hockey players of all time. In 1982, after his final year of college, Phil was signed as a free agent with the Los Angeles Kings and went on to a 10 year NHL career between LA and the Winnipeg Jets. Sykes was honoured to play for Team Canada in the 1986 World Championship held in Russia.

After his career as a player, Phil went on to coach in both Minnesota and Wisconsin for 15 years in the competitive hockey league in the high schools.
