The mission of Connecticut Chiefs Hockey, LLC is to promote the athletic & personal character development of those players who wish to excel at the highest level of hockey competition USA Hockey has to offer. The CT Chiefs will seek educational opportunities for our student-athletes. We will aid our student-athletes in successfully gaining those opportunities. We will achieve these goals by providing a quality consistent environment for our players, coaches, & families. The Chiefs have advanced over 275 players to Prep, Junior, & College hockey since the 2008-2009 season.

Team Information

How many players have your team or coaching staff (maybe with another team) advanced to the Next Level in Junior Hockey?

Coach Cunningham brings more than twenty years of coaching experience at a wide variety of levels including 12 years at the collegiate level. He has played an integral role in the recruiting of hundreds of student-athletes, both to his programs and to higher level programs during his time coaching youth and prep school hockey. Director of Player Development Ike Corriveau has been instrumental in helping numerous players advance to the USHL and NAHL as well as collegiate hockey at both the Division I and Division III levels.


How many players have your team or coaching staff (maybe with another team) advanced to NCAA College hockey?

The Connecticut Chiefs organization has seen more than 275 players advance to prep school, junior, college and professional hockey since the program’s inception in 2009. The Chiefs have found success working with each individual player’s family to find the best fit at the next level. Additionally, Coach Cunningham played a crucial role in the advancement to college of dozens of his players while serving as a youth and prep school coach. Many of those players went on to receive team or conference honors for their play during their college careers and/or served their teams as captains.


How many players have your team or coaching staff (maybe with another team) advanced to the Major Junior?

The Connecticut Chiefs have had 10 players drafted into Major Junior but those players have pursued the NCAA route.


How many players have your team or coaching staff (maybe with another team) advanced to North America Minor Pro or Europe?

During his four years as the top assistant at Connecticut College (NESCAC) Coach Cunningham worked closely with two players who played professional hockey after the conclusion of the college careers. JC Cangelosi played for Wanderers Gemering (Germany) and Tim DiPretoro played for the Brampton Beast (ECHL).


How many players have your team or coaching staff (maybe with another team) advanced to the NHL?

Director of Player Development Ike Corriveau coached Nick Bonino who currently plays the Nashville Predators after winning two Stanley Cups with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Nick has also played with the Anaheim Ducks and Vancouver Canucks during his NHL career.



What was the highest levels of Hockey did your Coaches, General Manager, or Owner play?

Coach Cunningham played at Connecticut College (NCAA DIII). Hockey Director Ike Corriveau played for the Washington Capitals, Hartford Whalers and San Jose Sharks in the NHL.


Does your program attend college showcases during the regular season play?

As members of the Eastern Hockey League and EHL Premier League we participate in four showcases at each level.


What is the billeting situations like and costs?

Because the Chiefs program is located in a populous area in close proximity to Hartford, CT, there are numerous quality billet opportunities within a thirty-minute radius of the rink with families looking forward to opening their homes to the right junior hockey player. The typical billet fee will range from $400-500 per month.


How many days per week does your team practice?

Our EHL team will be on the ice six days per week and our EHLP team will be on the ice five days per week.


Does your program have hockey specific strength and conditioning training? If so how many days per week?

Every player in our junior program will be in a hockey specific strength and conditioning program at the gym located in our home rink with Future Fitness. Future Fitness trains many of the local pros in Greater Hartford Area. The program will be designed to increase each player’s athletic ability, balance, strength and speed while at the same time focusing on keep our players healthy and on the ice. Each player will have a minimum of two supervised workouts per week depending on his game schedule.


Does your program have video evaluations?

Our coaching staff will use video extensively for team and individual player development. This video will be reviewed with players regularly and play a critical role in each player’s evaluations and goal-setting. Video will also be made available to junior and college coaches for recruiting purposes.


Does your program have an academic advisor?

Our program will work closely with an academic advisor to coordinate high school or college classes, review college essays, set up tutoring if needed and generally support our student-athlete’s successes.


What are the team fees

Our EHL tuition is $12,000 and our EHLP tuition is $9,000. These figures include ALL hockey related expenses including: all practices and games, access to dedicated team locker rooms, helmets, gloves, player gear package, travel to all away games, meals while the team is traveling, hotels when necessary, video review, strength and conditioning program, support and guidance in player advancement.


Does your team provide scholarship type program to reduce costs for players

The Chiefs are willing to work with players and families who need assistance to join our program. Hockey is an expensive game and running a player-centered program that covers all costs (with no hidden expenses) is not cheap, but we sincerely hope to never lose a player that fits our program based on finances.
