Ken Hoey
Head Coach
Coach Hoey has many kids to NAHL and USHL teams, as well as 2 players to Major Junior. The main focus on our program is helping players to get to College Hockey. The Spartans have sent players to go on to play College Hockey every year, and Coach Hoey has sent hundreds of kids to College Hockey over the course of several years. Coach Hoey has also coached 5 NHL Players, 2 of them playing several years with him.

Mike Rust
Strength and Conditioning
Mike has been the Strength and Conditioning coach for the Spartans since they entered the WSHL. At Southern Oregon University, Mike studied Health and Physical Education. Mike also holds numerous certifications in strength and conditioning, personal training, and Olympic weightlifting.

Robert L. Patterson III
Team Medical Provider
Robert L. Patterson III ( Rob) Has been a member of the Spartans family since it’s inception three years ago and has been there shoulder to shoulder with the team on the bench ever since. Rob has lived in the Rogue Valley since 2001 with his two boys Owen 11, and Robbie 13. Rob is an active member in the community helping to coach and serving as President of the Phoenix Talent Pop Warner Football Association.

Are You Ready To Become a Spartan?

The Spartans are gearing up for an exciting year and some new faces in the expanded 30-team Western States Hockey League. The team plays a 52 game regular season schedule against league opponents, as well as attending a Las Vegas show case, additional playoff games, and a run at the Thorne Cup. The team practices on ice up to 4 times a week, with additional off-ice film sessions. The program provides one of the top off-ice conditioning programs in junior hockey, with in depth off-ice training at a local facility. Off-ice training is facilitated by an experienced and highly motivating strength and conditioning coach. The Spartans also boast the largest and most dedicated fan base in the WSHL, numbering 700-800 screaming fans per game.

Team Overview

The Southern Oregon Spartans are a Tier II Junior A Hockey team located in the beautiful Rogue Valley in Southern Oregon. We are proud members of the Western States Hockey League, which is the largest Junior Hockey League in North America. WSHL rosters are made up of North American and International players. All North American players are considered as non-imports and all international players are permitted to a maximum of 14 per team. The season consists of 52 regular season games, plus exhibition and playoff games. Additionally included is the WSHL Las Vegas Showcase a prominent exposure event for college and professional hockey scouts and recruiters.The team is located in Medford, Oregon and enjoys the support of the local community and playing in front of sold out crowds! Our fans help create an electric atmosphere during our home games that is unmatched throughout the league. We have the best and most dedicated fans in the WSHL.

Arena / Facilities

The RRRink is Southern Oregon’s premier year-round ice skating facility. This beautiful 37,500 square foot facility is home to the Southern Oregon Spartans Junior A Hockey team, local area hockey players, figure skaters and skating enthusiasts.

The Southern Oregon Ice Arena, built in 1996, offers patrons the finest of amenities to make each visit enjoyable. Featuring an NHL regulation 200′ x 85′ ice sheet, The RRRink features a snack bar, espresso stand, arcade games, a fireside seating room with a big screen TV and protected view of the action, 5 full-size locker rooms with showers and full-service pro-shop for all of your skating needs. The friendly staff and clean, safe environment ensure a quality experience.

Check out Southern Oregon and Northern California’s only Full Service Hockey and Figure Skating Pro Shop. Located inside The RRRink, The Center Ice Pro Shop is the valley’s only source for quality hockey and figure skates, Licensed NHL jerseys and apparel. They also carry a full selection of sticks, equipment and accessories.

The RRRink is conveniently located in the heart of Medford. Lodging, restaurants, shopping centers, tourist attractions and cultural events are only minutes away from center ice.

 

Practices and Strength and Conditioning

We skate as a team, 5 days per week. We also have a great strength and conditioning regimen. We have a great trainer. The kids go to the gym every day after practices. Billeting

We have a great billet program. Players are put with families houses, not apartments. The cost is $400/Month

Evaluations

We have video evaluations regularly along with team practices.

Education

We have an Academic Advisor on staff who is also a college advisor, to assist players with learning, to monitor academic progress.
